Are you iPad ready?

Whilst the recently announced iPad from Apple has received mixed response, the launch of this ‘magical’ new device is scheduled to start in just under two months time. The iPad will be launched initially as a WiFi only version, but quickly followed by a combined WiFi and 3G version. First deliveries are expected around June / July.

As existing telecom operators selling the Apple iPhone will doubtless want to extend their data services to the iPad, they will however require a new SIM form factor. Despite only being used in one other device in the world, Apple has settled on a long standing but almost unused, Micro-UICC SIM.

The diagrams to the below depict the Micro-UICC along with the current standard GSM SIM card and the standard ISO-7810 carrier card.
